Melissa Gross
Hello, I'm Melissa Gross, and I am a student looking forward to a career in Counseling Psychology.
Melissa Gross is a student at the University of Memphis. She is a psychology major who is actively invovled in Psi Chi as the president, and in the Psychology Honors Program. She is also a recipient of the Emerging Leaders Scholarship Program at the University of Memphis. Not only is she actively involved on campus, Melissa Gross is involved in her community as a member and volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. She has earned the Venturing Silver Award; an award equivalent to the Eagle Scout award with the Boy Scouts of America. Through her involvment in the Boy Scouts she has learned to become a leader, to work with many types of people, and has made service a way of life and a passion. Melissa Gross has taken this passion into her work-life by working in the Emotive Computing Lab in the Institute for Technology Department at the University of Memphis. This is a cognitive psychology lab where Melissa assisted graduate students in running experiments and proccessing data. Now, Melissa works at NPRST (Navy Personnel Research Studies and Technology) as a student researcher. Here, she has worked on multiple projects, created many briefs (presentations) and has learned a lot through her experiences. She is also working on her undergraduate thesis that explores the differences between active and reserve service members to veteran service members at the University of Memphis as they relate to their transition to college. Melissa Gross looks forward to graduating in May of 2013 and going on to graduate school. She has always had a passion for learning, apparent by Melissa's finishing high school in three years, and always looks for more opportunities to learn. For example, Melissa Gross was offered an opportunity to travel to Germany to spend a week with the Boy Scouts there, and two weeks working as a counselor at an English summer camp for German youth. At this camp, Melissa taught English and helped develop a musical that was performed by the children at the end of the camp. It was a difficult, but rewarding experience and Melissa hopes to return again one day. Melissa Gross hopes to complete a Ph.D program in Counseling Psychology, train in Marriage and Family Therapy, and go on to work as a therapist with military families as a career.
